Compositores de referência compuseram para esta formação, tais como: L.V. Beethoven, Richard Strauss, Gioacchino Rossini ou Robert Schumann. Bernardo tem mantido um relacionamento estreito com vários compositores portugueses no sentido de alargar o repertório original para esta formação. Os compositores Sérgio Azevedo e Telmo Marques dedicaram-lhe obras.

J. Bernardo Silva can often be seen in duo – horn and piano. The original repertoire for this combination is very rich and captivating. Landmark composers made their contribution to it, for instance L.V. Beethoven, Richard Strauss, Gioacchino Rossini or Robert Schumann. Bernardo has maintained a close relationship with different Portuguese composers in order to enlarge the original repertoire for this combination.
